AN IMPORTANT MEETING FOR ALL GANGMASTERS
The Officers of the GLA have never claimed to be able to solve the problems of the Industry overnight, but many licensed Labour Providers will be forced to cease trading unless the payments they receive from their customers reflects the true cost of supplying labour. It is the opinion of many, if not all Gangmasters, that the GLA as the regulatory authority should do much more to educate the Labour User on the probable minimum charge that a legal Gang Master needs to levy in order to work within the law. This figure should be realistic and agreed within the industry. (To see a non politically correct version of this page, click here)
A meeting will be held in Boston, Lincolnshire at the New England Hotel on March 27th 2008 at 7.00pm . All Gangmasters will be welcome. The purpose of the meeting is to enable Gangmasters and others to air genuine grievences and provide a platform to enable a National Minimum Rate to be formulated for presentation to Labour Users and the GLA for consideration. If Labour Users continue to ignore the plight of the legal Labour Provider, problems which are already apparent, will undermine the work of the last two years.
The GLA has promised to attend and an invitation has been sent to the local MP.
To enable a free flow of opinion you will not be asked to give your name or that of your company. Please mke every effort to attend.
Most Gangmasters who embraced the coming of the GLA as a new dawn, now feel badly let down. All are aware of unlicensed, foreign labour used to supplement legal gangs and the other doubtful practices that some gangs feel forced to adopt just to survive. However unless the problems are debated and some solution found, it is probable that much food production currently provided in the UK could be filled by foreign imports.
Please attend and encourage others to join you. You dont have to register but it would help us to have some idea of numbers - your name and other information wil be treated as confidential and not be used other than to keep you informed.
Similarly, to enable worries to be discussed and supported with facts it would be helpful to know of your current concerns - if you wish they will presented to the meeting on your behalf by a member of the orgasers. Tell us now.
